It was on the 1 April 1964 that a group of like-minded men called a public meeting with the intention of forming a club in Papatoetoe, which it did by the end of that first meeting. The Club received an official registration certificate on 4 March 1965, and 19 Dunnotar Road was duly purchased.

Stage 1 of our premises was completed in December 1967. The Licensing Commission granted our licence on 29 January 1968, and the Clubrooms opened for business that same afternoon. As the club became more popular we needed room for expansion so two adjoining properties on Dunnotar Road were purchased during 1970. The Club saw the completion of Stage 2 in 1971.

It is interesting to note that ladies were not permitted full entry to the premises until March 1982. By 1978 the sporting sections were so popular that more space was needed and extensions were completed in 1979.

The Orange Renown Hall was purchased in August 1982, and was renovated by the end of that year. A Family Bar Licence was granted in December 1983, and applied to the upstairs and dining areas only. In December 1990 a large property directly across the road was purchased giving us unlimited scope to build a completely new complex. By mid-1992 plans were before the members and approved in December 1992. Work began on the new Club building late January 1993 and was completed by December that same year.

In 2012 the club building was 19 years old and in need of renovation, which began from the Restaurant, Lounge, and then through to the Sports Bar. Major re-design work was required in the Sports Bar to relieve congestion in the Bistro, TAB, and Gaming areas. When finished in 2013, this new layout proved highly successful and dramatically enhanced the entire complex. Ongoing revamping continues today, as changing times require us to keep the needs of our members the highest priority.
